Why We Get More Creative As We Age

Let’s be honest—life has kept us busy. Between raising kids, juggling careers, and downloading that app that your grandson said was easy, our creative selves may have taken a bit of a backseat. Or, let’s be real, a nap. A long one.

But here’s the good news: creativity doesn’t come with an expiration date. In fact, now that we’ve traded PTA meetings for peaceful mornings and rush hour for “whenever-I-feel-like-it” hour, it’s the perfect time to dust off that imagination. Whether it’s painting, writing, dancing in your living room, or making questionable pottery, there’s no wrong way to rediscover your creative spark.

Even better? Studies show that creative activities help keep our minds sharp and our memories strong—like brain exercise, only way more fun (and with fewer side planks). So go ahead: play, explore, and maybe even get a little messy. Because later life isn’t about slowing down—it’s about coloring outside the lines. On purpose.
